There are two types of dryer. They are gas dryer and electric dryer. Each of these dryer has its own problem and way of repairing it.

GAS DRYERS

If your gas dryer is not working at all:

First check if the power is getting inside it. Examine the tripped circuit breaker or the fuse if it has blown. Do not forget to use voltmeter to check the wall socket for power.

The problem could be from door switch actuator lever or door switch. If the door switch is broken, the dryer will not work. You need to replace the door switch. Many dryers possess a door switch actuator lever which presses against the wall when the dryer door is closed. When the lever is faulty, the switch will refuse to activate and thereby debar the dryer from working. It is advisable to change the lever.

Many dryer have a thermal fuse that burns out if the dryer overheats. This could make the dryer to stop overheating or not working at all. This fuse could be found on the vent duct in the dryer. When the fuse is blown off, the dryer will not start and this could be detected if it is tested by a meter. Before the fuse could be changed, ensure that the blower wheel I not clogged and avoid any vent blockage.

Timer could also affect the dryer and disallow it to work. Therefore, it needs replacement.

When there is no heat:

Just ignite glows, shut off dryer off without igniting the gas to know whether the problem lies with the coils. If you discover any black on the gas valve top, then the coils must be changed.

Many dryers have thermal fuse that burn off whenever the dryer is overheats which makes the dryer to stop heating. If the fuse has blown, you can discover this by testing it with a meter. If you find out that it has blown, then the fuse need replacement. Also make sure that the blower wheel is not clogged.

If the igniter has burnt off or breaks, there will be no heat, and then this shows that there should be urgent replacement.

Check the radiant heat sensor that is located closer to the igniter if it needs replacement.

ELECTIC DRYER

When there is no heat:

It could be from the heating element which burned out and show no continuity sign. It must be replaced.

It could be from thermal fuse which has burnt when there is overheating. Test the blown fuse with a meter in order to confirm before it is replaced. Do not forget to check the blower wheel if it is intact and not broken or clogged. Ensure that the vent is not blocking.

When the dryer is taking too long to dry:

Find out if the dryer vent hose and the vent duct is not clogged. Ensure that you apply daily cleaning because so many lines could accumulate in the dryer and the time could be affected and this could be disastrous. Therefore, it is advisable to maintain cleanliness with your electric dryer.

 There are many thermostats in the electric dryer. When one break is defected, it could affect function of the dryer. Change the affected thermostat as a matter of urgency.

 If the heating element is burning partially despite, it is still working but takes too much time to dry clothes. It is good to change the element for the purpose of effective work.
